                " MODEM - MATE......HELP FILE "



This program is the Copyright property of J Hulse 1993/94.


It is to be distributed for free to anyone who might make use of it.


I designed this software purely to help me to keep account of the cost
of using my modem, I decided to include an integral Phone Number Index
to make life easier for myself. If this program can be of any help to
you then feel free to use it, change it, or adapt it in any way that
you like but please retain my original copyright notice.


The software is intuitive to use, however I will run through the
commands in this file.


All commands may be accessed using either the control panel buttons or
the pull down menus ( which show short cut keys ).

Short cut keys to be found next to all pull down menu items are
implemented by pressing the right Amiga key together with the indicated
keyboard letter.



All calculations are carried out in sterling ie, Pounds , pence.
Simply follow the help file instructions but substitute cents for
pence and Dollars for Pounds it will give an accurate calculation
for people using USA currency.



              CALL TIME COST CALCULATOR;

 * * IMPORTANT NOTE:

Whenever you leave the calculator to visit the Index or Help File you must
save your data or it will be lost.

You may select a field by clicking on it with the left mouse button
or pressing the return key to move from one field to the next.


Identity Field;


    Enter some way of identifying which quarterly bill you are refering
    to.I suggest using the name of the month when the phone bill is due.
    You can then load this file every time you use the program in
    that particular quarter to get an accurate costing of your modem
    usage.

NOTE;    All monthly files can be found in the Save File draw on this
    program disk. They have been provided for ease of use, but feel
    free to use any identification name you like. You may delete the
    Save File completly if you do not need it.

    When you need to move from field to field to input data you can
    easily do this by simply pressing the return key on your keyboard
    instead of clicking in the field with the mouse pointer.

Normal Rate Field:


    Enter the cost of a normal rate phone call per minute, this can
    be found on your latest telephone bill.

    Use the "Rate Finder" to be found in the pull down menu.
    (Press Return)


Off Peak Rate Field;


    Enter the cost of an off peak rate telephone call per minute.
    this can be found on your latest telephone bill.
    (Press Return)


Normal Rate Duration Field;


    Enter the duration of telephone calls at normal charge periods
    in this field using minutes.
    (Press Return)


Off Peak Rate Duration Field;


    Enter the duration of telephone calls at off peak charge periods
    in this field using minutes.
    (Press Return)


Compute Button;


    Click on this button and the total cost of the call will be
    inserted into the Total Cost field. (Or Press Return)

    The total cost of all calls in the specified quarter will be
    inserted into the Running Total field.

    These totals will be displayed in pounds sterling.


Save Button:


    This will open a requester which will allow you to specify a name
    for your file and a place to store it ( it is recommended that
    you use the Personal Identity name)


Load Button:


    This will open a requester that will allow you to specify which
    monthly file to load into Modem-Mate from the Save File draw.
    Or any file you have saved under another name.


Clear Button:


    This will clear the Normal Duration,Off Peak Duration and Total
    Cost fields to enable input to these variables without changing
    any of the other fields. If the Data has not been saved you will
    loose it.


Clear All.....Pull Down Menu:


    This will clear all current fields. If the Data has not been
    saved you will loose it.


Rate Finder.....Pull Down Menu:


    This will open a window which will allow you to accurately
    calculate the correct cost per minute of telephone calls prior
    to entering such data into the appropriate fields.


    You will need your latest telephone bill:


    From the bill find any itemised Normal Rate charge and then
    enter the duration of the call in the "Minute" and "Seconds"
    fields, enter the total cost of the call as given, in pounds,
    into the "Call Cost:Pounds" field and then press return or
    click on compute with the left mouse button.

    Now you have the accurate cost of a Normal Rate call per minute.

    Repeat this procedure for your Off Peak Rate call charges.

    Whilst the Rate Finder window is open you may click in either
    the Normal Rate field or the Off Peak Rate field and enter
    the amounts.

    To quit the Rate Finder click in the close gadget in the top
    right hand corner (the small square box).


Index Button:


    This will access the Index of telephone numbers.

    You are able to add or delete any or all of the information
    contained within the index.


Help Button:


    This will bring up these pages, to return to the Call Time Cost
    Calculator choose "Quit" from the pull down menu.


Quit Button:


    This will exit the program.


*    TELEPHONE NUMBER INDEX:


Load........Pull down menu:


    This will open a requester that will allow you to open a
    different file to that which opens automatically at the start up
    of the program.


Save........Pull down menu:


    This will open a requester that will allow you to specify a name
    and path for saving your index file to.


Quit........Pull down menu:


    This will return you to the Call Time Cost Calculator, as it was
    when you left it.


Add........Button & menu:


    This will add all entries made into any of the fields.


Delete........Button & menu:


    This will remove the highlited entry in the name list together
    with all of the information in its attendant fields.


Search........Button and menu:


    This will open a requester that will allow you to search by
    definition for information in any of the fields.

    Enter the information to be searched for and click on search.

    To quit search simply click with the left mouse button in the
    close gadget to be found in the top left hand corner.


Tutorial:


    Click in the Name field, now enter the name of your contact.

    Press Return or click in the Telephone Number field, now enter
    the telephone number of your contact.

    Press Return or click in the BBS Number field, now enter the BBS
    number of your contact.

    Press Return or click in the Comments field, now enter any
    additional information about your contact.

    Click on ADD or choose it from the pull down menu, your contacts
    name will appear in the "Name List" and all information relating
    to it will be stored in memory.

    Carry on with this procedure until you have included all your
    contacts names then choose SAVE from the pull down menu to save
    your index to disk.

     To delete an entry simply click on the name in the "Names List"
    then click on delete, you must save your index again at this
    stage or when you quit the index in order that all changes become
    permanent.


NOTE:     It is good practice to save all changes to Data before
    leaving    the program.

favorite PD supplier.

I am now concentrating my efforts on the faster Blitz Basic and early
